I hope/expect some new batches to hit the market sometime soon. This is a holy grail palm for many of us PTers. Going to a spot in the Los Angeles area If you know anyone looking who would make a good palm parent send em my way. It’s in a 15 gal but it ideally should go in the ground soon, it’s filled in that pot already. Alas, the time has come.

Hello, I’m a novice collector and bought a 15 gallon foxy lady from a seller in Temecula, CA about 2 and a half weeks ago. In fact, about all the foxyladies that exhibited extreme variegation did not survive.
Look how elongated this viable F2 seed is, that I picked up yesterday. Maybe a few other palmtalkers that I sold F2 to can pipe in. The F2 I am growing so far is hard to tell if they will have the vigor yet, but so far, so good. The over variegated ones seem to languish and slowly die or just grow very slow, probably due to lack of chlorophyll. Are they the same as an F1 growth rate?

There is a variegated one on ebay right now ends in 21 hours Yup, and that’s why 100% green go for more $$ Regular ‘ol green specimens always look flawless.
Most likely a resold Rancho Soledad plant or a Florida import from Sparkman. But if there is actually “zero” movement, your palm is probably already dead. Even in the slowest sickliest palm, you should notice some movement of the spear – even 1/8 of an inch in a week assures that your palm is still alive. If you meant the spear has not moved at all, then your palm was in trouble from day one. You said, “I marked the spear the day it was delivered, and there has been zero growth.”

I moved the pot to a shadier spot in my yard and applied copious water this morning, and went home at lunch and gave it another soaking. A plant like this that makes tons of roots hates being in a pot made for Hawaii or FL. The pool fence isn’t nearly high enough for any shade for the entire plant, and it looks like the leaves are getting full sun most of the day, probably with low humidity.
- I caught the “Palm tree bug” a few years ago when my wife and I wanted to add some planters to our yard, and I’ve been turned into a palm-tree nerd, as i call myself, ever since.

- Was it grown from a seed made by nature or by manual cross pollination?
- Do you know if this palm was field grown, dug up, and then placed in its pot?

Foxy lady seeding
They can be solid green without any variegation. Can you tell me if this baby foxy is a full green ? I bought one like that on eBay recently and it will eventually be planted in a shady/partially sunny area of the garden.
They s/b just a hard and firm as a foxtail or vetchia to be viable. The fastest way I check for viable seed is to roll the seed on concrete with my foot, giving it some moderate pressure. It took about years of seeding until some viable seed dropped. I have been growing F2 Foxy Ladies for the last 3 years.
- So my question would be if this palm is mostly green will it do well in full sun
- Yeah I could tell it is 100% green as well.

I used a 4 foot bamboo stick I bought at Home Depot and tied it to the broken leaf. Mine’s established and I still water it almost daily. Secondly, drought tolerance is typically referring to in ground established plants. I’ve always heard that Foxy Lady’s like sun and are somewhat drought tolerant… From what I understand, this tree has been in the pot all along and was not recently potted from a field grown specimen.
Difficult losing palms, but the more palms you grow, over time, we lose some; that’s how it goes. I believe most of the time the seeds never germinate but very occasionally they do. I have some flowering/fruiting foxtails near an adonidia doing the same.
So today is my 24 hour soak, I added some super thrive to the water at 1 tsp per gallon and am hoping that my plant drinks it up! Both are superbly grown, just needs to planted to adapt to So foxy gold Cal conditions and watering. There are many other wonderful palms to grow where you are. There are more palms than Foxy Lady. As Dean says, if it doesn’t budge after a week or two of this shock, you may have a dead palm and one day the crownshaft will just collapse on you along with any green material that remains.
